So, a few months ago I got the bright idea to sign up for a 5k Mud Run & a 5k Color Me Rad...turned out they were the same weekend. This past weekend to be exact.
In case there was any confusion, it's really me. I survived!
1) Saturday was the Dirty Girl Mud Run, my first mud run ever! I don't even like dirt or mud, so obviously a mud run was a great choice. But once you're in it you might as well just get dirty!I was nervous...ok, I'll own it, I was freaking scared! I was like, "holy shit, what the eff did I get myself into?!?!?!"
I didn't know what to expect or if I could even do any of the obstacles. I'm not exactly known for agility and grace. More like clumsy and awkward, except when I dance (that's just amazeballs), but anyway I digress...
So we arrive at the event venue. After we checked ourselves in and checked our bags, we ventured over to the starting line. We had to wait a few minutes in the starting line and good thing for us because they played one of our hip hop class warm up songs so of course we did our hip hop routine. And it totally worked...legs warmed up and ready to go. And a few minutes later we were off to the races. We had 12 obstacles to make it through the entire race. I will admit, I was a walker but I tackled all of the obstacles head on.
This has to be on the of the best experiences of my life. And I'm not even being a jerk here. It was kind of amazing for me because I learned so much about myself in a measly few hours. I learned that I totally underestimate myself and my abilities and that I am way stronger than I give myself credit for. A year and a half ago I started working with a trainer (best trainer ever!). So, you would think that after that long I would have some idea what I could be capable of, right? Um no, I still surprise myself! I'm afraid of heights and I totally climbed a cargo net...I was completely terrified once I got to the top but once you go up you gots to come down, so I did and it was awesome.
This isn't something I could've done by myself and I can't thank my girls enough for a) making me do it and b) hanging with me! We are forever friends after this!
2) Sunday was the Color Me Rad. I wasn't sure if I would be able to move but we had a 9am start time so I was forced to get up early and face my second race. I had my white shirt and tatted up with my RAD temporary tattoo (that was a biotech to remove) and got my CMR sunglasses and off I went. This one was fun and light-hearted. It was a basic 5k (you could run or walk--again I walked) and there were color bombers to throw and/or spray you with a variety of colors. So at different intervals you were doused with color. It was a fun time and I survived!
Two 5ks in two days...Boom!
